| Pressure Foot Lighting Device

An integrator contacted Illumination Technologies interested in a device that could
effectively illuminate the beveled edge of a drilled hole. The goal was to measure the
width of the bevel and determine if the hole had been drilled correctly. Testing showed that
the best device we had to solve this application is our patented DRI, the Diffuse Ring
Illuminator. The bevel of the drilled hole reflected the low incident angle light in
such a way that it appeared as a bright ring to the vision system. The end-user was very pleased with the results and promptly ordered one of the devices. On receiving the DRI a concern arouse about its structural integrity. Illumination Technologies came to learn that this device was going on the end of a pressure foot and need to withstand 250 PSI. The pressure foot held two large metal sheets together against a underlying frame, drilled the hole, inspected the hole and placed a rivet. The DRI would be part of this large machine and had to be rugged and durable. We worked closely with the integrator to meet all the necessary specifications. The result can be seen above, a very tough, compact, LED version of our DRI, affectionately known as the 'Hockey Puck'
